The firm of D.H.Moore / Architect was established in 1993, in Victoria B.C. Canada.  Our work focuses on residential design of both new homes and renovations in Victoria, the Gulf Islands, and coastal regions of British Columbia.  The design intention of D.H.Moore / Architect is twofold. The first is to fully understand the owner’s hopes and needs for their building project. With this awareness in mind, a complete and sensitive understanding of the issues and unique qualities of each site is gained. The second intent is to create a marriage between the owner’s goals and the qualities of each site, through the design of the home. This can only be successful through careful listening, by fully involving the client, and by having extensive design and construction experience.

Intentionally, the firm is not fixed on a single style of architecture, rather it is intended that the design relate to the owner’s history and preferences as well as being informed by the context, the environmental qualities, and the amenities of each site.  Common aspects of each home, regardless of style, are: emphasis on connections between inside and outside, clear relationships of spaces, and careful attention to exterior and interior detail.  Our designs focus on the use of local materials, always involving local tradespeople, resulting in design and implementation that is environmentally and socially sustainable.  We are committed to the ethical and responsible practice of architecture.

The firm consists of Dennis Moore M.A.I.B.C., David Larson / Senior Technologist, and

Karen Hurley PhD., Environmental Planner.
